Chester Cat Care were phoned last week to assist with the rehoming of 25+ cats in urgent need following the death of their owner. We had less than a week to get everyone out and got 17 on Sunday, all of which have gone to foster homes. 7 of these cats are heavily pregnant, many need costly veterinary treatment and all had fleas, worms, ear mites and weepy eyes. The costs to get these cats the treatment they need are in excess of £2,000.
An article seeking funds due to go into the local paper tomorrow has been withdrawn as the family do not want any publicity. But the cats still need care and we must find the funds somehow. Please, can you help with a donation? We are absolutely desperate as were relying on donations following the publicity surrounding the story and are now in a very difficult situation indeed!
You can donate at chestercatcare.co.uk/Support_Us.htm#MAD , by phoning Chester Vets4Pets on 01244 400 273 or you can make a donation of £1-10 by texting "CCAT00 £5" to 70070 (which would donate £5, or "CCAT £8" for an £8 donation etc etc). Those are zeros by the way in CCAT00.
Here are some of the 17 cats who have come out and their stories:
Amelia and Magic, who we suspect to be mother and daughter and aged 3-4 years old and 1 year old and both pure white. Both are heavily pregnant, due in approx 10 days. Amelia needs dental treatment urgently and is has also been put onto antibiotics as she has a slight vulval discharge, which signifies possible infection and could even be the beginnings of a miscarriage (she is being closely monitored). Magic, a distinctive girl with one green eye and one blue, has also been put onto a course of antibiotics and eye drops as she has a very snotty nose and conjunctivitis. Both cats have ear mites, fleas and worms. Their treatment so far has cost approximately £70, Amelia's dental treatment will cost a further £100 (approx), to neuter them will cost approximately £60 and their vaccinations, microchips etc will cost a further £100 each. Assuming that is all the treatment they will need during their stay with us, that's a whopping £330. And if each give birth to 3 kittens, each needing vaccs, neutering voucher, microchip etc, that's another £300... excluding the food costs which will be considerable!
Ebony, an all black boy who is approx 2 years old. He has a serious eye problem - the eye is badly ulcerated and as he is so thin, the "fatty pad" which rests behind the eye normally is almost nonexistant, meaning there is a gap between the eyelids and the eyes, causing them to rub/flap and cause infection (this is my understanding from the vet's description, I might have the technicalities wrong!). The eye is so badly scarred that surgery looks inevitable. Eye surgery is notoriously expensive, approximately £300. There is a glimmer of hope that the fatty pad will be restored as Ebony gains weight and the eye just remains as it is, useless for sight but no longer causing painful infections, but this is unlikely at this stage. Ebony is neutered (hurrah!) but he will need his vaccinations, microchip etc as well, plus the flea, worm and ear mites again... so we are looking at £400+ for his treatment He only has two teeth, whick look set to fall out...
Misty, a longhaired girl who was found caked in mud, excrement and terribly matted. She has flu symptoms, conjunctivitis and noisy breathing which have been treated with an antibiotic injection. She is also very skinny and weak - we suspect that she was struggling with outdoor living with her long fur. She also had fleas, worms and ear mites. She has terrible teeth and needs a dental operation... so her treatment will be in the region of £175.
I hate reducing these beautiful cats to the cost of their treatment - all are fantastically sweet, loving little things who are thriving in their foster homes, eating for Britain and getting so much love. But sadly love alone can not fix everything, which is why i am appealing to everyone we ca to give a few pounds if at all possible. Many small donations really do add up and will help us get these four, and the other 12 who are in similar states, the treatment they need... not to mention the many many little ones who are on their way!

Please note, i am unable to go into any further detail about the family or the situation the cats have come from, but if anyone has any reason to doubt the validity of this story, they are welcome to phone the vets who have dealt with/examined these cats on 01244 400 273, ourselves on 07962 385 213 or the local paper on 01244 304500.
