Tatty was just one more male kitten that was never neutered, and wandered off looking for pretty girls and night clubs, and then forgot his way home. He must have then spent years on the streets trying to survive as a full Tomcat, despised by many, until he finally found a kind human being who wanted to help him. He was not well at the time and struggling to find food, so she fed him for many months but could not get near him. Finally, she found Goldies Oldies. We were eager to help get this poor lad off the street and into a supportive and loving home.
NOT AS EASY AS IT SOUNDED. It took several weeks to catch him. He was distrustful and frightened once we started to try to round him up, well it was to be expected, after living alone for so long. Finally the lady, Mrs P, trapped him in her front room when he came through the window to get his dinner, it was then we managed to get him into a cage.
What a state he was in. His fur was manky, his skin was flakey and there was a few bare patches. His eyes were watery and he STUNK just like a Tomcat should. He was quite angry and aggressive also, well wouldnt you be, come in for diiner and are hoisted off somewhere strange.
But that day heralded his rehabilitation. He came to live with me, and I have been forcing myself on him on a daily basis, so he would learn how to be loved. I can now hold him like a baby, as long as I hold his front paws, and I can hold him over my shoulder which he doesn"t seem to mind. I am still careful with him and don"t think he would be suitable around children, but I now have hope that he might find a suitable home.
He is a bit of a rascal at times, which just adds to his personality, but he does know who is boss ( ME soon to be you )) and, whilst he is splendid with feral male cats, and female cats, he has decided he is the Alpha Male, and doesn"t like male cats who presume to be as important as he is and will pick on them, the little bully!!!! A few weeks ago I had to travel to Southampton/Eastbourne overnight, so to make things easier, I took him with me and he stayed with me at my cousin"s house. My cousin is in his 70"s. TATTY was so well behaved. He slept at the food of my bed, used his litter tray, pottered about my cousins"s house without getting into any trouble and when we sat down to watch the telly, TATTY sat between us listening to our conversation and watching telly. It was during this visit that I realised it was time to start looking for a home for TATTY.
With regard to his health, his skin is finally clearing up and his fur looks okay. He is neutered. He loves dinnertime and his litter tray habits are good. I think he is ready to find a new home. I still cannot get him to purr but perhaps he never had any reason to purr in the past and doesn"t know how.
I think he would be great in a home with perhaps a couple of young female cats, he seems okay around male adolescents as well, or a home of his own. He is good company. I think he really loves owning a human and seems contented to live indoors.
He has had his troubles, and he really does deserve the best home now, to bring out more, and who knows, a lapcat could be lurking, you"ll have to visit hime to find out. Is there anyone out there who would give Tatty a chance to blossom as a precious pet?
