Ruby is my foster from Feline network, this poor girl on her way to her new home got lost for a month, so she was a mess when she came here.

She is the easiest cat to care for very relaxed.
She is doing brilliantly loves to sleep as they do when they get older and also enjoys a little play.

Hi Hun, please could you give me more info on being a fosterer.

Due to circumstances, I'm looking into fostering. excuse my ignorance but i wanted to research as much as i can before i commit. hope that makes sense.

were do people start:
Ive posted in dog,cat,rats to say i would foster.

i don't mind having home check, because i had my own business and over 25 years experience (please see my profile on here) Ive never had one.

when i filled out the foster form, where does it go from there so to speak?

do i supply the cage for any rats or do u supply them?
do i pay for the food or do you supply it?
if the furkid has a medical problem that they come with who pays the vet?

If the furkids is poorly for other reasons, like cut paw etc when I'm out walking, who pays the vet bill?

When it is our lucky time for a new foster furkid, our we able to keep them if the occasion arise?

when will someone contact me about fostering and having a home check?

do you have rules like for people who are elderly,poorly,unemployed,working etc?

If we see a furkid that we are interested in and its not in our area would we still get a chance to foster/re home?

As a parent (furkid) how do u make sure that the re homed/Foster furkid will get on with the furkids already in "their" home?

I'm asking because I want the opportunity to have a new furkid be it forever home or foster and would like as much info as possible so if i need to have cages for rats etc or food bowls and toys. ( Moo got a great big toy box and don't mind sharing).

Hope you don't mind me asking this kind of information. I just want to be prepared. Ive done my foster form but heard nothing yet . so any information would be great.

when i filled out the foster form, where does it go from there so to speak? it goes no where, anything you post stays on this forum. We will remove contact numbers to the staff room but apart from that it's here for rescues to see and ask you to help if they think you're home is suitable.

do i supply the cage for any rats or do u supply them? Some rescues supply but it is easier if you can find a cage yourself as it makes it easier for rescues - Freecycle is the best place for this
do i pay for the food or do you supply it? Again rescues are different, some give you food, others ask that you supply it so that they can keep their costs down.
if the furkid has a medical problem that they come with who pays the vet? This is always a rescues responsibility but you MUST try to contact the rescue before going to the vets if possible.

As long as you give the rescue notice then yes you have the oppotunity to "rehome" the animal but be aware that if someone else enquires before you do then the rescue has a responsibility to not show favouritism.

You do BUT it if you wish to rehome it is your responsibility to visit and then pick up your forever baby. If fostering and the rescues feels the animal would be happy then they will ask other volunteers to HELP transport the animal to your home

just want to prepare . I got everything for a dog. will defo look into getting some cages and some food just incase its needed. thankou for your help hun.

Good to see Jenny gave you lots of great info
I could only repeat that tbh! Fostering can be a challenge but the rewards are so great. And there is always that saftely net knowing if they need treatment the rescue pays for the vet costs.

Ive been posting ion gumtree for cages ec. The food and hay ect I will get when i kn. Im looking for two rats at the moment. Im in a middle and I think still greiving for spooky as she died so sudden with no warning, normal when there poorly we have a plan.

last walk, picnic with all friends with loads of treats and fun and games, then me and their sister, go to vets, they come to van we say bye bye and goodnite while we are all sat with them while they go. then we drive the 13 miles to meadow wood and then say are bye again then we go. they come home a week later we take them for there last walk (the casket) comes with us. once home we open the casket up and devide the ashes to special friends. I have to teddies that had a tin in then with ashes sealed in a tin, they sit on the bed. the little teddy goes with me on holiday and in hospital so they are with me at all times. they are on my facebook pics. when i go into hospital my best mate comes and takes both memrial boxes and big teddy/dog to hers "for a holiday" until i come back home.

Spooky was , rush to vet, 9 yrs later. dead. i dont understand and nearly a month on i still have issues and cant move on. i wrote a poem on fb for her if you wants to read. please dont copy it though cuz its spookys. her ashes came home and are in both memorial boxes yet i still cant move on. normaly when their ashes come home i feel whole again. but this time its not happened. i cant get over that she died on her own and we were not there. i cant forgive myself for that and dont know if i ever will. I have decided to get 2 rats for now. becuse i think im still greiving for spooky and i dont want a new furkid to feel my heartache. so if there are any baby rats in plymouth please let me know. many thanks. xxxxx
