Danny is approx 3 years old. He is a lovely little dog who loves his cuddles. He spent a week in foster to give him a break from kennels and has got a great report.
Fostering report:
General character:
We have loved having Danny here to stay over half term. Danny is an absolute little sweetheart who is just 23 inches to the shoulder. He loves his toys and is very playful. He will retrieve a toy or ball, but can be relucant to return it!We worked on the command 'ta' and I asked Danny to sit once he brought me the toy back to calm him down and take the edge off his giddiness.
Danny can be rough when he plays and occasionally mouths and nips. Because of this I would advise not to home him with very small children. Danny is confident and affectionate and happily greets everyone he meets in and out of the house. He loves to be fussed and is comfortable with you handling his mouth, ears and feet. He is settled and relaxed in the house and after a challenging first night at home after that, Danny slept soundly with my dogs for the whole night.
Danny is extremely bright and willing to please, he is so easy to train and will be a great companion for another playful dog or an older, calmer dog who will put him in his place. He was a bit over the top sometimes with my dogs and is very puppyish in his mannerisms, however, he is very submissive and didn't challenge my dogs when they told him off.
Toileting:
Danny is house trained and has had no accidents whilst here. He used the dog flap confidently and when it was locked asked to be let out.
Travelling:
Danny is perfect in the car. He lies straight down and is quiet on long and short journeys.
Eating:
Danny waits for his food he does not rush it. He did not attempt to go near our dogs' bowls when I put theirs down first. Danny will now sit, lie down and give a paw for a treat. He takes treats gently. He loves pigs ears, chews, bones and will do anything for liver cake or a piece of cheese! This makes Danny really easy to train.
Leaving alone:
Danny has been left alone for four hours, he is non destructive and quiet. However, he did escape from my garden to find me on two occassions whilst I was out with my other two dogs so secure, high fencing is a must. I solved this by locking the dog flap when I was walking my other two dogs and there were no problems.
Out and about:
Danny does pull on the lead but soon settles down and then walks beautifully, he knows his name and his recall is pretty good. I only tested this on a long lead. When we met other dogs out and about he pulled on the lead, barked and growled, but when I took him over to say hello to dogs I knew wouldn't react he greeted them nicely and wasn't pushy at all. he met my dogs at the kennels without any issues, so I think this is something easily fixed with training and further socialisation. I would not trust him at the moment with smaller dogs without a muzzle. He loves to be out and about in all weathers and would suit a pretty active family.
Please give Danny boy a chance, you won't be disappointed!
